We’re currently getting some ideas together for how to use GPS related features through the ProWorkflow application and Mobile Webapp.
If you have some thoughts on GPS features you would like to see added, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do!
We’re always comitted to ensuring smooth running of our subscription servers and as part of this we occasionally need to do some server maintenance. We will be performing some scheduled maintenance during the times below.
Although the servers should only be offline for a small window of perhaps an hour or less, allow a few hours either side just to be safe.

Most people around the world with news or internet access will know by now that Christchurch, New Zealand was struck by a devastating 6.3 magnitude earthquake 2 days ago close to the city causing death and destruction to our beautiful city and leaving many homeless without power, water or sewerage.
With international assistance, there are many rescue teams still searching the rubble for survivors and will be for some time.
It looks like it will take many years to rebuild the city, restore hope and for people to stand tall again but it will happen. Cantabrian’s are tough people and the city will be rebuilt.

ProActive Software (Developers of http://www.proworkflow.com) is a 10 y/o global project management software company operating out of New Zealand with two main offices, a development office in New Plymouth and sales/support office in Christchurch. All our subscription servers and customer data is hosted in the US.
We want to let people know that our Christchurch team are all ok. We operate in a commercial office 20 mins out of the city so had a good shake, but were relatively unaffected. One employee has had damage to her home but generally speaking we’re all safe and well.
Our Christchurch office suffered no damage, power and phones this side of town are completely unaffected and we’ll all head back there next week to resume as ‘normal’.
Regarding the business side, we are reminding people though that all our subscription servers are in the US at a top data centre (LayeredTech) with full redundancy so there won’t be any downtime.
We only have the sales/support team in Christchurch and they’re operating fine. The development team is in New Plymouth so they are all unaffected. Despite the ProWorkflow team going through two major earthquakes in 6 months, ProWorkflow has had zero downtime and retained good support and service. This is the benefit of a cloud based business model.
As individuals, our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Christchurch. Many have lost families, homes, jobs and are living without water, power and sewerage.
We’ll personally do what we can to help people, but if anyone wants to offer donations to help the Christchurch relief effort, we suggest you donate to the Red Cross from this page: http://www.redcross.org.nz/donate
I’d like to personally say thank you to all the customers that have emailed us with messages of support. It means a lot to the team.
If anyone has questions concerning either the earthquake or ProWorkflow service, feel welcome to contact us through the support page and we’ll get in touch.

Just the other day I was made aware of a really interesting post on the blog of a ProWorkflow customer. Check it out here:
http://www.proxi.com.au/blog/?p=24
Tim from Proxi talks about ‘billing by the minute’ and how the concept is proving a successful business model for their company and clients.
In the creative industry where the norm is ‘charge by the hour’, it’s refreshing to see a company looking after their customers and not overcharging.
They’re providing great service and the customer can have confidence they’ll be looked after. In the current economic climate, I think this is a very good move for Proxi and is sympathetic to customer wallets.
They use ProWorkflow for the time tracking which allows them to accurately track time by the minute and keeps the billing transparent for clients.
So have a read of their post and check them out if you need some creative work. I know Proxi will see you right!
Have a read!

Here’s a great email we received today from a long time customer of ProWorkflow (project management software).
It’s always good to get this type of feedback and keeps our batteries charges so we can continue to deliver value to the ProWorkflow user base.

Hey Julian,
I just wanted to say kudos to you and your team for putting together such an amazing mobile version of your site. Richard has really outdone himself. It’s a beautiful interface with amazing CSS functionality for mobile devices.
Plus it offers all the stuff the iPhone app has been missing. We’re all very impressed and just wanted to say thanks for being the awesome company, product and team that you guys are.
We couldn’t be as successful of an agency without ProWorkflow. Say hi to the rest of the team for me. Cheers.

Hi Julian,
I can’t wait. You guys always keep building the product towards excellence. It’s the same philosophy we have with our company, our products/services and the way we treat our clients. We’ve had lots of vendors not adhere to the same level of commitment to quality that we do and it’s really refreshing to have a vendor in our corner that works like we do.
Thank you for that and you may absolutely use my comment in your blog. In fact, if you ever want to do a client profile on us and how we use your product or just sing huge praises about your stuff, let me know and I’ll help in any way I can.
Take care.

We came across this review when cruising the net. It was done completely independently by a company looking for a project management and time tracking solution.
There’s no single solution that fits everyone, but it’s great to see a company do a proper indepth evaluation of some available tools and even better to see where we sit with ours (ProWorkflow).
We did think it was a well balanced report so have a read and see what you think. Feel welcome to try a free ProWorkflow trial account!

Project Management and Time Tracking
Article Republished from: Zenovations Blog
The world of Time Tracking and Project Management is a vast one. For small businesses like ours, there are seemingly endless time tracking solutions and a good number of project management answers. I spent nearly two weeks evaluating options in my spare time, so hopefully this data will help save you some time.
Here are the criteria I used to narrow down the possible project management and time tracking solutions:
- Web based application
Our dev’s use various platforms and it needs to run everywhere without install and upgrade headaches, I also considered Air and Flash apps - Support for 5 users
Because, yanno, we need five people to record time - Time tracking must include timer with start/stop capabilities
We are multi taskers and like accuracy; we considered products with timer widgets as well - Feature list and pricing prominent
Excluded all sites with vague details, no screenshots, or “contact us for details and pricing” models, due to sheer volume and time needed to research - Must have a free trial evaluation
Yanno, so I could evaluate them - Professional and sharp web site
Attention to detail is critical to good software design and project management, how they run their site should reflect this
After nearly ten hours of research, I narrowed the field to fifteen products. Then I evaluated each product by importing several of our current projects into it and using the time tracking tools for one day. After which I ran reports and recorded my findings in a spreadsheet. The final ratings were on a 1-5 scale, based on usability, project management capabilities, time tracking capabilities, invoicing features, reporting capabilities, and API and integration tools. Here’s what I came up with:
Once I had some numbers to work with, I weighted each product to meet our needs, based on the following criteria:
- Usability: Ease and speed of use is very important to us, as we have little time for project management (x2)
- Time tracking capabilities: highly critical (x5)
- Project management capabilities: highly critical (x5)
- Low price: we want to keep the price under $50 a month, so our value calculation was tweaked accordingly: rating *3 – (price per month/10)
- Invoicing, reports, and so on are nice, of course, but we can make due with our external, existing solutions
So, using this data, here were my findings:
It should be apparent that ProWorkflow is, hands down, the best overall project management software on the market. It’s quality, well thought out, bug free, fast, and powerful.
Skylight was by far the best for our needs, according to price versus quality. The rest of the data is interesting, but several of the products listed had a time tracking or project management rating less than three, which is insufficient for our needs. So the final choices for us were as follows:
- Skylight – use this and put up with the slow, laborious interface; our preference for now
- Basecamp + MyHours/Harvest/Tick – together, these products are a complete package, but pricey
- ProWorkflow – premium pricing, but we could bite the bullet on this and get the best quality product on the market.
If you’d like to view or download the complete data, including links to all of the product sites, you can find all the gory details in the Google spreadsheet. You can also view the same data sorted by total quality instead.
